From 30 October to 1 November 2026, the BGMI International Cup (BMIC) 2026 will bring 16 of Asia's top mobile esports teams to The Dome, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Indoor Stadium, Mumbai.
Six teams from India will take on five from South Korea and five from Japan. They will compete for a ₹1 crore prize pool and two places at the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2026 in Türkiye.
BMIC matters well beyond gaming. It is an international esports event organised in India by KRAFTON India, staged in a premium stadium and backed by ticket sales, sponsors and multilingual broadcasts.
For entrepreneurs, it is a clear view of a fast-maturing industry. Since 1 May 2026, that industry has also been operating under a formal legal framework.

The BGMI International Cup is KRAFTON India's flagship international tournament for Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the Indian version of PUBG Mobile.
It is the only international BGMI event. India's best teams play directly against established PUBG Mobile teams from South Korea and Japan, two of the strongest regions in the game.
The first edition was held in New Delhi in 2025. The 2026 edition moves to Mumbai.
International exposure: Indian teams test themselves against Korean and Japanese teams on home soil, a rare and valuable competitive experience.
Global gateway: The top two finishers earn PMGC 2026 places, so BMIC is a direct route from Indian LAN events to the world championship.
Season finale: BMIC comes right after the BGMI Showdown (BMSD). It is the last BGMI esports event of the 2026 season.
In 2025, matches were played across Erangel, Miramar and Rondo. The 2026 map rotation is yet to be officially confirmed.

| Team Outrage | BMSD 2026 6th (123 points) |
| Gladiators Esports (GDR) | BMSD 2026 Top 6 |
Fact-check flag: One report lists the sixth Indian team as "Gladiators Esports" and another as "Team GDR", which are likely the same organisation. Some reports also differ on which Indian team holds the BMSD PMGC slot. Confirm against KRAFTON India's official list before publishing.
| Team | Qualification |
| Nongshim RedForce (NS RedForce) | Korean Esports League (KEL) 2026 Champion, 213 pts |
| Dplus KIA | KEL 2026 Runner-up |

NS RedForce: Won four of their five tournaments in 2026 and took KEL by 104 points. Their roster includes HyunBin and Soez, who were part of DRX's 2025 title-winning squad.
DRX: The defending champions, although most of their 2025 lineup has moved. HyunBin and Soez joined NS RedForce, and Cyxae joined Dplus KIA.
Team SouL: BMSD 2026 champions and crowd favourites in Mumbai. They are looking to add an international title to their domestic win.
Valor: PMJL champions with a direct PMGC slot. They are Japan's strongest hope against the Korean and Indian teams.
The total BMIC 2026 prize pool is ₹1 crore, the same as in 2025. KRAFTON India has not yet announced the 2026 split.
For reference, the BMIC 2025 distribution was:
| Placement / Award | BMIC 2025 Prize |
| 1st (DRX) | ₹30,00,000 |
| 2nd (True Rippers) | ₹15,00,000 |

Teams that already hold PMGC slots, such as Team SouL (via BMSD), NS RedForce (via KEL) and Valor (via PMJL), cannot take a duplicate slot.
If one of them finishes in the top two, the BMIC slot is expected to pass to the next eligible team. This means a third-place finish, or even lower, could still earn a ticket to Istanbul.
India has up to five international slots in 2026:
| Edition | Dates | Venue | Prize Pool | Teams | Champion |
| BMIC 2025 | 31 Oct – 2 Nov 2025 | Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi | ₹1 crore | 16 (India 8, Korea 4, Japan 4) | DRX (South Korea) |
| BMIC 2026 | 30 Oct – 1 Nov 2026 | The Dome, SVP Indoor Stadium, Mumbai | ₹1 crore | 16 (India 6, Korea 5, Japan 5) | To be decided |
The first BMIC was billed as India's first-ever international BGMI LAN event.
BMSD 2026 began on 22 September with 48 invite-only Indian teams. Its LAN Grand Finals were held from 16 to 18 October at Savaaya Convention, Hyderabad, with a ₹1 crore pool. The top six advanced to BMIC.
KRAFTON India's second-half 2026 roadmap combines BMSD and BMIC, for ₹2 crore in total prize money. It is designed to create a direct competitive pipeline and give teams international exposure.
BMIC feeds into the worldwide PUBG Mobile season. That season includes two PMGO events (US$500,000 each), PMWC 2026 (US$3,000,000) and PMGC 2026 in Istanbul (US$3,000,000), for US$7 million in total.

An event like BMIC shows clearly where the money in esports comes from.
Brands pay for jersey logos, broadcast placements and campaigns. For most organisations, this is the largest and most stable revenue source.
BMIC's ₹1 crore pool rewards all top finishers, but prizes are unpredictable. Sustainable organisations treat them as upside rather than core income.
Streams, highlights and creator content earn advertising and sponsorship income. Multilingual broadcasts like BMIC's widen the audience for team content.
Stadium events sell tickets, reportedly from ₹499 for BMIC, along with hospitality and on-ground activations. This creates revenue for organisers and venue partners.
Jerseys and apparel sell best around big LAN events, when fan excitement and attendance peak.
| Opportunity | What It Involves | Revenue Sources | Assessment |
| Esports team / organisation | Fielding BGMI rosters for BMSD and BMIC | Sponsors, prizes, content | High visibility, high cost |
| Tournament organiser | Running qualifiers, college and community events | Entry fees, sponsors, media | Asset-light, scalable |
| Event production & broadcast | Staging, streaming and multilingual casting | Service fees | B2B, steady |
| Talent / creator management | Managing players and streamers | Commission | Low capex |
| Esports marketing agency | Connecting brands with teams and events | Retainers, campaign fees | High demand |
| Gaming café / LAN arena | Venues for practice and local events | Hourly fees, events, F&B | Familiar retail model |
| Merchandise & apparel | Team jerseys and fan gear | Product margin | Peaks around events |
| Esports academy / coaching | Training aspiring BGMI players | Course fees | Recurring revenue |
| Gaming hardware & accessories | Devices, peripherals and cooling for players | Product sales | Grows with player base |
| Hospitality & travel | Team travel, bootcamps and fan packages | Service fees | Event-linked demand |
The strongest businesses combine models. A competitive team brings attention, while content, events or services provide steady income.
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 received Presidential assent on 22 August 2025. It recognises and promotes esports and online social games, and prohibits online money games.
MeitY notified the Online Gaming Rules, 2026 on 22 April 2026. They came into force on 1 May 2026 and established the Online Gaming Authority of India.
Esports organisations can apply for registration. Tournaments can seek recognition under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, giving events like BMIC formal legal standing.
An online money game cannot be recognised as an esport. Advertising, sponsorship and surrogate promotion of online money games are prohibited.
Credibility: Legal separation from real-money gaming makes banking, brand partnerships and investment easier.
Sponsor discipline: Teams and events cannot accept sponsorship from online money gaming platforms. These platforms were once major esports spenders, so revenue plans must adjust.
Grey areas: Law firms note that recognition under the National Sports Governance Act is still taking shape. Legal advice is recommended before applying.
Court challenges: Some provisions of the Act are under challenge in court. Outcomes could affect parts of the framework.
A Private Limited Company suits founders planning to raise investment. An LLP suits partner-led ventures, and a proprietorship suits a small café or solo creator.
Incorporate on the MCA portal with a unique name, DSC, DIN and registered office. Choose the correct NIC code for esports, events or software activities.
Register on the Udyam portal for MSME status. This unlocks priority-sector lending, collateral-free credit options, delayed-payment protection and many state schemes.
Obtain GST registration if turnover crosses the threshold or inter-state services are provided. Sponsorships, event fees and ticket income are generally taxable.
Innovative, scalable ventures can apply for Startup India (DPIIT) recognition for tax benefits, easier compliance and access to the Fund of Funds network.
File trademarks for the team name, logo and event names before launch. In esports, the brand is the asset, and rebranding later damages fan equity.
Under the Online Gaming Rules 2026, eligible esports organisations and tournaments can apply for formal registration. Check the Online Gaming Authority's current process first.
Every player should have a written contract covering salary, prize share, content rights, conduct, transfers and exit terms. Clear contracts prevent most disputes.
| Document | Needed For |
| PAN and Aadhaar of directors / partners | Incorporation, Udyam |
| Registered office address proof + NOC | Incorporation, GST |
| Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) | MCA filings |
| MOA / AOA or LLP agreement | Incorporation |
| Business bank account | GST, Udyam, prize and sponsor payments |
| Pitch deck and business description | DPIIT recognition, investors |
| Brand name and logo files | Trademark filing |
| Player contracts and roster details | Tournament and esports registration |
A pure cash prize is generally outside GST, because "money" is excluded from goods and services under the CGST Act. Sponsorships, services, event fees and tickets do attract GST.
Organisers have commonly deducted TDS at 30% plus cess on prize money above ₹10,000, treating it as winnings from games. This flat rate is a long-standing concern for esports teams.
For a company, prizes, sponsorships and content revenue are usually business income. Salaries, travel, bootcamps and equipment can typically be claimed as expenses.
Korean and Japanese teams winning prize money at BMIC may face Indian withholding tax. Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements and foreign tax credits help reduce double taxation.
Important: The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the 1961 Act from 1 April 2026, and section numbers have changed. Familiar older references such as Section 194B are used here for clarity. Esports prize money treatment is still debated, so a chartered accountant should be consulted before any payout.
DPIIT-recognised startups can access an income tax holiday (subject to conditions), self-certification under labour laws, faster IP processing and the Fund of Funds for Startups.
MSME registration opens credit guarantee schemes, priority lending and many state subsidies. It is usually the first step before applying for any scheme.
As BMIC's host state, Maharashtra offers an AVGC-XR policy with production incentives and development clusters. It aims to build Mumbai and Pune into hubs for original gaming IP.
The AVGC-XR Policy 2026, notified on 12 March 2026, targets 200+ startups and 2 lakh jobs by 2030. It is backed by a ₹50 crore Centre of Excellence in Chennai.
Karnataka's AVGC-XR policy offers incentives and training for gaming. It aims for 30,000 jobs by 2029 and supports game creation, XR and talent incubation.
The Haryana AVGC-XR Policy 2026 offers subsidies and investment incentives for gaming, animation and XR businesses, which is useful for founders in Gurugram and the NCR.
MP's AVGC-XR policy offers up to 50% reimbursement on training fees, with extra incentives for women entrepreneurs and underprivileged students.
The Telangana Sports Policy 2025 includes esports development, supported by Young India Sports University. Hyderabad hosted the BMSD 2026 Grand Finals.
To check which schemes an esports or gaming venture qualifies for, use the StartupFlora Government Schemes Dashboard or book a Funding Audit.
An unregistered team cannot sign sponsors properly, open a business account or receive prize money cleanly. The entity should be registered before any player is signed.
Verbal agreements with players cause disputes over salary, prize splits and transfers. Written contracts covering pay, prize share, content rights and exit terms are essential.
Online money gaming sponsorship is prohibited under the PROG framework. Every brand should be vetted, as one bad deal can cause legal and reputational damage.
Unplanned TDS, GST and foreign tax can wipe out a season's margin. Proper books and a CA from day one are essential.
An unprotected team name can be claimed by others. In esports, losing the name means losing the fan base.
Building a budget around tournament wins is risky. Sponsorship, content and services should come first, with prizes treated as a bonus.
These scenarios are illustrative, not real companies.
A Mumbai-based BGMI team registers as a Private Limited Company and gets Udyam and DPIIT recognition. Formal sponsor contracts and player payments put it on a professional path through BMSD toward BMIC and PMGC.
A production startup supplies staging, streaming and multilingual casting for regional LAN events. It builds a portfolio aimed at contracts for larger tournaments.
An agency connects consumer brands with BGMI teams for content and event campaigns. It earns retainers by helping brands reach young audiences without traditional advertising.
A Haryana entrepreneur opens a LAN gaming café, registers on Udyam, and explores Haryana AVGC-XR incentives and MSME credit for equipment. The café hosts local qualifiers that feed into larger events.
Business owners attending as market research should watch the sponsor branding, on-ground activations, fan engagement and broadcast production as closely as the matches.

Yes. Organisers commonly deduct TDS at 30% plus cess on winnings above ₹10,000. A pure cash prize is generally outside GST. Consult a CA, since section numbers changed under the Income-tax Act, 2025.
BMIC 2026 brings Asia's best BGMI and PUBG Mobile teams to Mumbai, with ₹1 crore and two PMGC 2026 tickets at stake.
It also shows how Indian esports is changing:
For entrepreneurs, the opportunity extends well beyond fielding a team. Event production, marketing, venues, merchandise, academies and services all grow alongside tournaments like BMIC.
The businesses most likely to succeed will register properly, sign clear contracts, protect their brand, plan their taxes and use the state AVGC-XR and Startup India support available.
