FSSAI Registration Apply

Food Safety & Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) is a Judicial body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in the government of India. FSSAI was established under The Food & Safety Standard Act 2006. The main motive of FSSAI is to protect & promote citizens' good health with clear regulations & control of Food safety. After the successful registration under FSSAI, the food business owners receive FSSAI license & FSSAI Certification.

Every person involved in the food business is under mandatory regulations by the government to receive an FSSAI Registration. An individual who wants to open a Bakery, hotel, cloud kitchen, Restaurant, food stall, or any business related to food in India needs an FSSAI license.  

Food Business Operators are people who are into storage, distribution, selling, transportation, preparation, and manufacturing of

any kind of food products. For the FBO's it is necessary to have an FSSAI certification & registration to go on with their food business.   

FSSAI is a governing body that regulates & keeps a check on the whole food business in our country. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is the parent organization of FSSAI under the government of India.  

The FSSAI makes sure that the food products are of good quality in terms of food Containment & deal with sub-standard products. The FBO receives Registration & licensing under FSSAI. Also, it creates & regulates the food running process & business in India.  

Process of  Online FSSAI License & Certification  

  • FBO can apply on an online form on the FoSCoS portal for receiving FSSAI registration, There are 2 kinds Form A - Application for Registration & Form B- the Food & Safety Department. The form Submission process for Registration is also available offline.  

  • All the required Documents are mandatory & must be uploaded on the FoSCoS portal. The documents must be uploaded online or submitted online to the Food & Safety Department with a physical application.   

  • Acceptance or Rejection of the FSSAI form is done within 7 days from the date of receipt online or the offline mode via a FoSCoS portal. But in case of application rejection, it must be intimated to the FOS in writing.  

  • The FSSAI will examine the submitted documents.  

  • The FSSAI department will perform an inspection of the food premise before giving the FSSAI registration certificate if needed.  

  • In case of approval with all the requirements met for the FBO's application, then the FSSAI approves the registration certificate with registration no. and photo of the applicant's email.  

  • The FBO is supposed to showcase the FSSAI Certification at their workplace during business hours.  

FSSAI License Eligibility  

Besides the small-scale business, The FBO other than that are required to get an FSSAI license. FSSAI license comes under two categories, Firstly the State FSSAI license & secondly the Central FSSAI license. The variation in both is based on the size of the business from medium scale to large business   

State FSSAI License- For Medium-Sized Manufacturing Units   

  • Turnover should be between 12 lakh to 20 crore.  

  • There should be no limit on production Capacity with unit sin grains, pulses & cereals milling  

  • The maximum time for the license to be issued is 5 years to 1 year in minimum.  

Central FSSAI License - For Large Scale Business   

  • Includes Importers & exporters   

  • Turnover should be between 20 crore.  

  • There is a special category of FBOs notwithstanding of the size or turnover of the business:  

  • Businesses working in two or more states.  

  • Importers and exporters.  

  • Non-specified food. & Proprietary food   

  • Nutraceuticals and Food or health supplements.  

  • Food under the Radiation processing.  

  • The Food Business running actively at the premises of Central Govt Agencies  

  • The restaurants, petty retailers, canteens, hawkers, and caterers working on the premises of the railway station   

  • restaurants, Canteen Caterers, hawkers, or petty retailers at the premises of railway stations  

  • Food business in E-commerce   

  • The maximum time for the license to be issued is 5 years to 1 year in minimum.  

Required Documents For Getting the FSSAI License  

  • The list of Documents required to get a State & Central License under FSSAI is mentioned below :  

  • Photo ID Proof of the FBO  

  • Proof for the holder ship of the Work Premise in terms of rental agreement, NOC from the owner of the rented area, Electricity & water bills   

  • System Plan for Food Safety Management.  

  • All food products Manufactured or processed should be submitted in List Form.  

  • Details of Bank Accounts.  

  • Business constitution certificate  

  1. Partnership deed,   

  2. Certificate of incorporation  

  3. Shop and establishment license   

  4. And other business registration certificates.  

  • Supporting documents (if required)   

  •        1. NOC by Municipality or Panchayat  

  •        2. Health NOC,   

  •        3. Manufacturer provided Copy of License, etc.  

Other than the Documents mentioned above, Some particularly detailed Documents are necessary to apply for Online FSSAI state & central license. The List is Mentioned Below:  

For Sate FSSAI Liscense :  

  • Form B duly done and signed  

  • Blueprint of the Processing unit with all dimensions & area allocation according to operations.  

  • A list consisting of all the details such as address, contacts & ID proof with a photo of all the directors, proprietors & partners.  

  • The list of equipment& machinery used with the installed quantity with Names   

  • An authorized letter from the Manufacturer is given to who is responsible with its name & address details.  

  • Water analysis report based on the usage.   

  • Certificate by the Coop Act 1861/Multi-State Coop Act 2002.  

FSSAI License Cost  

  • With the process of FSSAI Submission, the FBO has to pay a online fess with the registration form. Rates for different kinds of registration are mentioned below.  

  • Basis FSSAI Registration- 100rs fees   

  • State FSSAI License- (depends on the type of business)- between - 2000 to 5000 rs fees   

  • Central FSSAI License- 7500rs fees   

Renewal of FSSAI License  

FSSAI License is the most important criterion to start a food business, that timing renewal is also important for a license. The license is valid for 1-5 years. And in that time limit the FBO should apply for renewal before 30 days of the date of expiry. 

Types of FSSAI Registration  

Factors like business types, turnover & capacity of production define the different types of FSSAI Registration. The FBO is eligible for registration under state & central FSSAI registration based on their turnover & capacity installation.  

FSSAI Basic Registration   

  • Turnover less than 12lakhs Per Annum  

  • Form A should be filled by the FBO's  

FSSAI State License  

  • Turnover of more than 12 lakh to less than 20 crore per annum  

  •  Form B should be filled by the FBO's  

FSSAI Central License 

  • Turnover more than 20 crores Per Annum   

  • Form B should be filled by the FBO's

  • Raw Material for Dairy Products, Meat, etc source list   

  • If applicable, The Recall Plan  

  • Ministry of Commerce Certificate for 100% EOU  

  • NOC/PA document received by FSSAI  

  • IE code document published by DGFT  

  • Form IX  

  • Certificate from Ministry of Tourism  

  • Funding paper for evidence of turnover and transport
